Livingston on the Caribbean coast of Guatemala was very different to the rest of Guatemala...There is a mixture of the Spanish speaking Guatemalans and the Garifuna people...from the Caribbean. The Garifuna people speak Creole (I think) and English and LOVE Bob Marley.
We stayed at a great Hostel called Casa De La Iguana. They had good basic bungalows with millions of crabs underneath (apparently they eat the mosquito larvae) and a great deck where everyone hung out. They also cooked home cook meals in the evening so everyone ate together, played games, chatted, drank etc etc the usual stuff. The weather was okay - not as much rain as the previous few days. The second day there, four of us went to the 7 Alters which are these beautiful pools and waterfalls in the jungle. About a 2 hour walk along the beach to get there. We swam in the pools and some of us jumped off the waterfall...of course I was too chicken.
It took me a few days to decide on my next destination ...Belize or Honduras...it is hard to know with the unpredictable weather at the moment. Anyway I decided on Belize. I also met an Australian girl called Gin who was heading that way so we decided to travel together.
