Belize Cont....
After a day in Placencia and no joy hitching a ride on a boat, we caught a bus ...or rather 3 or 4 buses and about 3 boats to Caye Caulker up north. The roads where flooded and at one point the bridge down...so we got off the bus and caught a boat across the river and then back onto another bus. Luckily we did not have to hang around Belize city as it did not look like much fun
Finally we arrived at the beautiful Island of Caye Caulker in the Caribbean....palm trees and crystal clear water. Found a backpackers on the beach and almost straight away went with some people snorkeling. What a great experience....saw a nurse shark and swam with about 15 - 20 Stingrays...even got to touch them. Amazing experience.
That night we went out with a group of people from the backpackers to a BBQ place on the side of the road where we ate fresh lobster on the BBQ...yummy!
I think I spent about 3 or 4 days on the Island....swimming, hanging out in the hammock and not doing much else. It is exceptionally relaxed there and within a day or two you recognise everyone on the Island. We were very lucky as the weather was beautiful.
Although life on the Cayes was great ...I could not spend more time in the hammock, so I decided to head down to Honduras to the Bay Islands. It is quite a distance from Caye Caulker to Honduras so I bit the bullet and took a flight there ..eeek that was expensive...ended up being a flight form Belize City, to Salvador, to San Pedro Sula in Honduras and finally onto La Ceiba in Honduras.....Photos to be updated soon
