Hello from Bangkok!
Well this stop wasn't meant to be part of the plan but its been pretty interesting despite the fact we have been here many times before. We were going to fly from Singapore straight to the north of Thailand to Chiang Mai but the flight was so expensive and to fly to Bangkok from Singapore was so cheap we decided to come here, then take the train to Chiang Mai.
It's turned out to be a great plan as Bangkok is always an assault on the senses and we are looking forward to a bit of train travel to boot. We spent our first night on Khao San Road, the legendary backpackers hangout and our guesthouse room was so close to the action that we could not sleep for the noise and the heat. Loud clubbing music went until 3am and our windows had panes missing so it was like setting up a bed in the middle of a nightclub. Bleary eyed and hot the next morning we took a room at another hotel and splashed out on our own bathroom and aircon. Things definitely picked up from here!
After a good nights sleep we booked our train ticket, visited the Grand Palace and ate ourselves silly at the foodstalls set up along Khao San Road. We've loved the buzz of it all, tried Lychee Juice (nice, but gains second place next to Dragonfruit juice), spring rolls, pad thai (wotcha gonna do M & N!), banana rotis, sticky rice and mango....mmmmmmmm
Tomorrow we take the train for Chiang Mai in the north and from there we want to spend two weeks exploring the jungle and seeing the hilltribe people, take an elephant ride, all the normal stuff. Then we fly to Hong Kong on 22nd May.
Have a look at our new albums to see photos of what we have been up to. Lots of love to you all.
