Our last day we left Mana and went on the South Seas Cruises and were lucky enough to get into the Captains' Lounge $15 each per person each way from Mana. This is an area on the boat that is air conditioned and child free. Plus you get a complimentary drink and chippies! It was quite nice to get out of the sun after still feeling a little ill. Once the boat gets moving the breeze cools you down but make sure you offer this option to couples travelling to the Mamanuca's. We had the famous Mummas Pizza in Denarau which was yum! Jack is a really good place to get souvenirs' and thought they were well priced.
We checked into the Westin which is one of my favourites in Denarau. When you drive into Denarau it's like driving from Tokoroa into Papamoa. The mainland is quite dirty, filled with litter and quite busy. The roads are in need of a little TLC but you get to Denarau and it is completely the opposite.
The Westin is modern yet with an authentic Fijian feel. The pool was so cool and our rooms where very nice.
We also got to see the Sheraton Villa Apartments which are very nice and get for families.
The Sheraton Fiji Resort is very sterile. I would sell but only at a last resort or if they were at a really good price. The beauty of the three I have just mentioned is that you stay in one and can play in all three. That's 17 restaurants and 6 swimming pools. Good selling point.
We flew home on an older plane of Air Pacific. Meal was gross. Airline staf friendly. Plane needs a refurb and no personal entertainment (you have to watch the same as everyone else).
Overview:
The beauty of Fiji is that it is only a 3 hours flight away. We are second only to Australia for visitor numbers but Kiwis return more often. It's paradise on our own back doorstep. The Fijian people are so friendly, their smiles sure to brighten any day. Fiji caters to families, couples and groups very well. Depending on taste you can be staying at a 3 star property in a 5 star location, or a 5 star property in a 3 star location.
Personal favourites: The Westin, Sheraton Villas, Plantation Island, Lomani.
Families on a Budget: Plantation, Mana
Families not on a Budget: Malolo, Castaway
Honeymooners: Lomani, Matamanoa, Tokoriki, Likuliku
Best Sand: Matamanoa
Best Beach: Mana
Vinaka!
