Kelly & Mac in Asia :)
Hello from Kanchanuburi,
We arrived safely after a two hour bus journey from Bangkok. Our Guesthouse is basic but clean and overlooks the Kwai river. The cabins are arranged in a U shape around a lovely lawn area with beautiful flowers, trees and lazily swinging hammocks. Spent our first afternoon soaking up the sun and reading our books.
Yesterday we took a trip to the nearby Erwan falls. Seven tiers, each with a pool for swimming. We climbed and climbed for almost two hours to reach the top, but it was well worth it...beautiful! We were able to take a long dip and cool off under the falls. The only downside were the great big ankle biting fishes!
After a quick lunch of Pad Thai noodles we went elephant riding. Ours was called miss Vanessa and she was huge! I even got to drive...tickling her ears with my toes and shouting Huy Huy (Go Go!) I couldn't really believe it was happening: me, Kelly Marrs from Annfield Plain on the back of an elephant!!
The trip finished with a short ride along the Thai Burma railway to the Kwai river bridge. The Death railway was built as an aid to the Japenese war effort and it is said that a man died for ever sleeper laid.
That night we hit the Sangsom for the first time! A strong Thai rum that goes down surprisingly well :) We were drinking in the garden of our Guesthouse in a mixed group of Thai/Finns/Irish and a lone Psy trance loving German! It ended up just like an afterparty really...encouraging eachother to down shots of rum and a horrible Moonshine brew that smells (and maybe even tastes) like petrol!
The crack was canny, and it was commented that no-one had ever heard an accent quite like Michaels!! We taught them some choice Geordie phrases and learned some Finnish. The Finnish word for pubic hair is Hoy, so they were tickled by the fact that we go out on the Hoy most weekends!
We finished off a fantastic day with a group skinny dip in the Kwai...
Big love petals K&M
