After having a fantastic day swimming with Dolphins in Cancun, we arrived at a new hotel in Cancun where our 15 day Mexico Tour started. We woke in the morning and met the first half of the group, we had breakfast and then got the coach to our first stop, Playa Del Carmen. When we arrived me and Jen headed straight to the beach (after a long needed McDonalds)!! Had a nicely relaxing day, I burnt my bum!! We met the rest of the group, there is know 12 of us and everybody is really nice. We had a welcome group dinner, where me and Jen had the biggest feast ever, had all sorts, I even eat lobster!
The next day we got up at the crack of dawn and went to Tulum. Tulum is an archaeological site, that has many ruins and really old buildings from the Mya tribes many years ago!! We didn’t find out much about them because Jen’s flip flop broke so we had to miss the tour and get her a new pair! We walked round on our own not knowing what we were looking but the best bit was the beach at the end, it was beautiful!
On the way to our next stop Merida, we stopped at another ruins site named Chichen Ishza, this site was actually really interesting, and we managed not to miss the tour!! Can’t remember what I learnt but I remember it was good! Lol.
Merida, a small town in Mexico was our next destination, we did lots here. We traveled about 2 hours to swim in underground caves, it was amazing so beautiful. The water was so clear and warm. We had to get on a wooden cart that was on rail tracks pulled by a horse to get there, it was there only form of transport to take you to the caves, it was fun!
Next was Palenque, what a place this was!! We lived in a Jungle for 2 days it was crazy!! Never seen rain like it, it was pouring!!! Again we went to another archaeological site, kinda getting boring but this was the last one! It was really boring but the place was pretty. I was very home sick this day so wasn’t happy to be walking around for 3 hours!! The jungle was amazing thought, we stayed right in the middle of it! The hotel was great, had entertainment every night, the fire throwers were the best! The restaurant was also lovely; they had English food, wahooo!! Lol.
We left Palenque on a private bus to San Cristobal, where on the way we stop at 2 amazing waterfalls, they were massive, very beautiful!! We did lots in San Cristobal, first me and Jen took a city tour bus around the city (like them touristy ones in London, what a geek!). It wasn’t very long so I stayed awake! We eat doughnuts here, they were lovely! The next day we went to a small town and visited a church, I was actually speechless, it was so serial. We walked in and there were lots of families sitting around candles, they go there to worship etc. We saw one family use the traditional method to take bad sprits away from there children, wait for it, they wave a chicken over the kid and then there and then kill the poor animal!! Then they drink rum, apparently this takes all evil from the child. It was so different to anything I’ve ever seen, crazy!! Then we went into a Mexican families home to see how they live and its sooo different from us! They have one room with 4 beds in, where about 8 people sleep!! They cooked for us and showed us there work, the women waive and make beautiful garments, a few people brought stuff! This town is very poor, it was a real eye opener and it kinda made me appreciate life a lot more!! After this we got on a speed boat along the river and went to visit the crocodiles, they were massive, amazing, it soo close to us! That was cool.
Somehow I managed to get really ill here, I think it was the salmon!! I was so sick, want good! Had a horse ride booked so went on it but had to come home after 2 hours, thought I was going to die! Wasn’t pleasant! I slept all day, whilst the others were out touring the city! That night we had to get the night bus (14 hours) to Pauebla. Luckily I spelt 13 of them 14 hours, so the trip was ok!!
The whole time in Pauebla I was ill so didn’t get up to much here. We took another city bus, this is a good way to see the whole town! Still couldn’t eat much, so just chilled out here!!
Our last bus ride was to Mexico City!! The biggest city in the world!! This city was crazy, so busy, people everywhere and lots of dirty male Mexicans (DM, our code for them)!! We again did another tour of the city but this time it was 3 bloody hours!! Was good to see everything though! Day of the Dead was on the 1st of November so the main plaza was crazy full of people and stalls about dead people! This day is was popular here, it’s a day where everybody celebrates lives of people that have passed away!! We finished our tour here in Mexico city!
Overall the tour was amazing, we went to so many different parts of Mexico that I wouldn’t off seen if wasn’t on tour, theses places are not places you would go on holidays!! We are now off to Monterrey to visit Jen’s friend Laura, and then im off to see Craig in Mississippi! Really can’t wait!
