So we finally managed to drag ourselves away from Thailand and we arrived in Phnom Penh a couple of hours ago after a ferry from Phi Phi to Krabi, a five hour wait for a 12 hour bus to Bangkok, an hour taxi ride to the airport where we arrived at 5am, an 8 hour wait in Bangkok airport (and a very uncofrtable sleep), an hour flight to Phnom Penh and a bloody scary tuk tuk ride to the guest house we are here at last only a couple of weeks overdue.
We had a minor scare at Bangkok airport as we had overstayed our visas by a day as we had been unable to get a bus back to Bangkok the previous day and we had heard that we might get in trouble or fined for overstaying. So when we got to passport control Katherine went first and they took away her passport and made her stand by the Immigration Police counter, then mine. We had to stand there waiting with images of a Thai prison running through our heads as we were lead away by an Immigration Officer but luckily all we got was an extra stamp in our passports saying we had overstayed. RELIEF!
First impressions are that we didn't think it was possible for drivers to be more crazy than they are in Thailand but apparently it is. There is absolutely no concept here of travelling one way down one road and people seem to pretty much just go wherever they like!
After a quick nap (we are both ill, I think I may have tonsilitis so might be spending tomorrow looking for a doctor whilst Katherine is suffering with ulcers and wisdom teeth) we just braved Phnom Penh for our first Cambodian meal which was rather nice. And now I think we are ready for bed!
Tomorrow we will need to find the Vietnam Embassy to arrange our visas and will hopefully begin sight seeing, some highlights being the Silver Pagoda, Royal Palace, Killing Fields and Tul Sleung Museum. However as we are still camera-less we might have to wait a couple of days!

sue and andy Glad to hear u r safely out of Thailand complete with passports. Sorry u r both feeling bit unwell - as u said detox needed!! Mum wouldn't have liked the bus trip. Cant believe over a month has gone now. Enjoy Cambodia. lots of love,
Pat & Mike So sorry to hear about your "downs" but your "ups" are brilliant. It would be worse here in the UK, cold, wet, snow etc plus pre election verbal diarrohea from politicians, February fatigue and Easter egg extremes. All we can say is keep taking the pills, keep smiling and enjoy. we understand only too well about tuk.tuk travel, could be fun in Harlow!
Anne Kohler Sounds like you are really having an adventure, would love to be in your shoes tonsilitis, wisdom teeth and ulcers included. Take care Anne
