Katie's Travels
Here I am again on the internet for the second time in three days, unchartered civility!
As I've probably already mentioned I have been in the desert for a number of days and therefore been away from the luxuries of flushing toilets and power. Well I'm in america's playground at the moment in a fairly expensive internet cafe, but it was the only place we could find. I am having real trouble typing at the moment due to lack of practice!
We just had the most amazing buffet at the Luxor and now feel about the size of a car, or an american person.
I'm trying to think of good stories to tell you all but I can't seem to think of any but I am admittedly having a bit of a non-functioning-brain day. Just a minute ago on the way here we wandered through a casino and I was thinking 'I wonder why everything's New York themed?' only to realise we were in New York New York! Clearly my brain has been affected by the huge amount of sun.
I will now take a moment to tell you all about my tan. I don't think you'd recognise me as I already have a tan that could be called a tan by a normal-coloured person. I even have tan lines just from sitting by the pool in Zion national park yesterday.
Oh I've thought of a story. Yesterday we took a break from eating the same bread and sandwich fillings that we've consumed for the past few weeks and headed to Blondie's Diner. Now this was a proper see-it-in-the-movies kind of diner, we even had homemade cheesecake! We followed this all-american experience with a visit to an elk ranch next door.
I can't remember if I have mentioned the fact that we visited the Roswell UFO museum which was possibly the funniest thing ever, they clearly take the whole thing far too seriously, but it was well worth a visit.
I must now make a confession of laziness. Our group have visited the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park and I have failed to do any hiking at all, choosing instead to use my precious free time during these days to sit in a state of stillness. Actually I did do a little hiking in the Grand Cayon but to be honest once you get over the initial 'wow' factor you're pretty much just looking at the same giant crack in the ground from slightly lower down.
I saw a funny sign the other day that did annoy me slightly whilst making me laugh. There was a bar by the Grand Canyon tha we were going to go into but there was a sign above the door that said 'Persons under 21 may only enter accompanied by a parent'. Apparently I'm old enough to travel around the world or buy a gun in this country, but god forbid I should sit in a bar without mummy and daddy to look after me.
I will soon have to sign out as my ludicrously expensive internet card will run out, but I'll try to squeeze in the maximum in the remaining 14 minutes and 25 seconds. I'm quite excited right now because we're doing a limo ride along the strip tonight followed hopefully by a drag show, I'll be sure to take a large number of photos that I will eventually get round to downloading (I hope).
Well I think that's all my stories for the past few days. Please keep e-mailing and posting messages because I love to hear from you all at home just to know that like goes on on the other side of the world. I'll also wish everyone a generic goodluck with uni, college, new jobs and apprenticeships and apologise that I don't have the time to say it individually, be assured that it's no less heartfelt.
time to go now I think, I 've got to find my way back to the motel now what fun.
Bye for now and love as always.
Kate
