We had a great time on the North Island of New Zealand but the past two weeks here in the South have definatly been the best. The scenary and landscape is stunning, with snow capped mountain ranges and beautiful blue lakes. One of the highlights was the Franz Josef glacier, we did a full day hike on the ice, through caves and up steep glacier walls. We got soaking wet and freezing cold but both loved it- definatly a once in a lifetime experience. The west coast is really remote and we stayed in a few tiny towns, the best was the 'Poo Pub', owned by Les an 84 year old, who cooked us all steak for dinner and everynight hosts a fancy dress party for 50 backpackers! He was great and the pub is full of photos of all the groups from the past 10 years. Our party theme was Xmas and Graham won by going as boxing day- see the photos for evidence!! We spent 4 days in Queenstown, the party and adventure capital of New Zealand, where Graham received his prize...........a Canyon Swing! Similar to a bungy jump but jumping off and swinging across a huge canyon, Katie screamed just watching but Graham chose to jump twice, the second time strapped to a plastic chair! Also in Queenstown we did more walking but this time in the sunshine and on dry land, up a mountain to see the town from above. An amazing view and worth Katies sweat and tears on the way up! Milford Sound was another brilliant day out where we did a boat cruise through the Fiords and took in more stunning scenary. Travelling on our bus has been great fun, we've met loads of people and spent a memorable night drinking cocktails from teapots! We're in Christchurch now after spending a couple of nights in a place called Kaikoura, where we spent a fantastic afternoon swimming with Seals. We have both absolutly loved New Zealand and cant believe where the last month has gone. Tomorrow we fly to Fiji where we are spending Christmas, so have a good one everyone and think of us sipping cocktails and lying in the sun on Christmas day!
