So this is our last long stop in New Zealand, Paihia in the beautiful Bay of Islands. It is another seaside resort, however, the weather hasn't really held up for us, but hey, you can't have everything. First thing we did was go on a high speed boat, the Mack Attack. Leah actually pushed infront of small children to get us the best seats - shame on her! Not that I wasn't excitedly trotting at the rear. We couldn't leave New Zealand without one last X-treme activity - sand boarding. Basically climbing to the top of a massive dune and being flung down it by a huge Maori guy on a boogie board. There were no safety regulations at all, thus increased danger levels and consequently excitement! The day we went was the worst possible day as the high gales caused really bad sand storms. Sand was hitting every bit of us and it was very painful. We were literally being blown over it was that bad - and it was getting in our eyes, mouths and ears, ergh! Nevertheless, we persevered. Leah plunged to her almost death as she came off the board. Luckily nothing was broken so no lying to the insurance company. I also lost my sunglasses on the way down which was a little annoying. We failed to go up for a second go. Next up was tui tui, or clam picking. We waded into the water, unfortunaltely I was wearing jeans and in all the excitement, sat down in the sea. I accept any dumb blonde comments at this point. Afterwards, of two bus loads of people, Leah and I were the only people brave enough to try a clam. Then when the said two bus loads smugly watched us both heaving on the beach, we realsied why. Very attractive. So the last activity in New Zealand - a nice leisurely horse ride up to a volcano. Now, you've all seen those comedy sketches where people mount a horse on one side, miss, and fall straight off the other? Only happens in the movies? Apparently not. Leah in all her eagerness did exactly this, much to my amusement. Don't worry about her though -the only thing really bruised was her ego. I was lucky, I had a white horse called Jimmy who was so chilled out. I named him Jimmy the Princess Horse, me being the princess, of course! So after a great time in the Bay of Islands, we return to Auckland and in two more sleeps we fly to Sydney...
