Hi from Cambodia!
We arrived about 4 days ago, and took a long and bumpy bus journey to a place called Ban Lung, in the north east of Cambodia. It was not a very touristy place at all which seems to be unusual here! We spent 2 days cycling through forest roads, to waterfalls and to an amazing lake which is formed from a volcanic crater… perfectly cylindrical and so warm it was like taking a bath! Found some great little local places to eat with interesting local soups and noodle dishes.
Yesterday we began a huge journey to Siem Reap, it was supposed to take 12 hours, but instead took over 17 hours, we didn't arrive in Siem Reap until half midnight… However it wasn't a bad journey, Tom was stuck into books all day ( I think he read 2!) and there were lots of interesting locals and travelers to chat to. We were eventually dropped off outside the town in a scam to make more money- we were told we had to pay $4 each to get into town! However in the end we managed to get it down to the more reasonable price of 1$, the driver still tried his very best to get us to stay at the hostel he was commissioned to!
Today we went to a Cambodian cookery school to learn traditional Khmer cooking, brilliant! The food is very different to Thai, lots more herbs and a lot less chillis. Between us, we made- fresh spring rolls, a mango salad, Cambodian soup, Fish Amok (my favouite!) and banana and pumpkin puddings. We didn't quite manage to finish everything, there was a lot of food!
Tomorrow, we are going to see the famous Angkor temples of Cambodia! Planning a 4 am get up so that we can get to see the Angkor Wat at sunrise, fingers crossed we actually make it on time!
There should also be a few new photos on the blog from the last 2 weeks J
Bye for now!
