So after going over our budget for the first two weeks Kate and I decided that we needed to start cutting back. Something of an austerity program. We thought it would be best to find the cheapest accommodation possible so that we could still spend lots on food and tours and such. So we went for a stroll and found what we thought were cute little huts along the river. We were fairly tired from the night before so we decided to lay low for the day in and around the hut. I went out for a little and read down by the river while Kate had a "nap" in the hut. I came back a while later to find Kate in a tank top and bikini sprawled out across the bed. She said nothing but "it's just so hot in Thailand right now" (her famous quote she says daily). After our relaxing day we decided to hit the hay early so we could get an early start the next day. We laid down on our bubble gum pink comforter that said things like "hold your best friend with both hands" and "thank you for accepting me as a friend" with two koala bears on it. It gets fairly nippy out at night in pai since it is up in the mountains so Kate and I bundled up in all our clothes. We decided to sleep on top of our bubble gum pink friends blanket since the mattress on the ground was worse than some floors I have slept on. However throughout the night it got progressively colder and creepier in our nice little hut. Kate woke up half way through the night, one of her ear plugs that we usually sleep with to drown out the music and partying had fallen out and was lost in the bed. She could hear cows, roosters, lizards, geckos, birds, monkeys and the occasional person walking by. This freaked her out as we were in a hut made of thatched bamboo and could see the shadows outside from the holes in our walls and floors. She said she wished she had a knife and felt like Noah's ark was coming to attack us. When I woke up it was almost check out time and Kate was already packed ready to leave the hut which we had previously booked for three nights. I had to quickly throw my stuff together while Kate checked out. Gathering my things from the bathroom I discovered an ant farm in our toilet as there is no "flush" function to our toilet I had to pour water in it repeatedly to wash them all away. That made me move a little bit faster. The next night we sprang for a room with real walls and air conditioning for an extra 3 dollars a night.
The adventure continues.
