Heya! I am one happy girl cause I am getting super tan from this hot hot Italian sunshine. Love it. A lot has happened since I last posted a blog. I was too lazy to write one in Roma, but now we are in Venice. Jess is taking a nap cause we had a late night lastnight, and are gearing up for an early morning departure for Athens tomorrow morning... We have to say goodbye to our tour group. I think I will cry. I love these crazy Aussies!
Anywhoo, we got to stay 3 nights in Rome, which was really nice cause it didnt feel like we were rushing as much. The campground was just like the one in Florence, more like a resort. Love it. But we got to go on a walking tour of Roma and saw all the major sights. *Michael Buble is on the radio right now, this is great* But I got to throw my coins in the Trevi Fountain, and we saw the Collesseum and ride the dodgy metro. How great. The next day we had a free day in the city. We headed straight for the Vatican City in the morning, which was absolutely ama zing. St. Peter s ballisca was sooooo huge, and the Sistine was disappointing... From there we had lunch with some of the tour, and then headed to the roman forum. Wow, that was so cool. We got to see where the center of democracy was, where the Vestial Virgins lived, where Cesar used to give speaches. We even got to see his tomb. It was fab. While we were there there was a tour going on and it ended up being free! It was a tour guide from Loiusiana who had a day off and decided to do some free tours! Wow was it refreshing to be amongst Americans!! At that poiint, we were so tired so we had some gelati on the Spanish Steps and headed back to the campsite. IT was just our luck that it started DOWNPOURING while we were waiting for the public bus... So Jess and I found a peice of cardboard on the side of the road and ducked under there for about an hour waiting for our bus to come... What an experience.
We also got to see Pompei, which was unlike anything I have ever seen. Its HUGE! Way bigger and more impressive than I thought. Its an actual city, with snack bars, mansions, theatres, churches, and even a brothel. It was so cool to wander around this ancient city. I loved the bath houses, and the molds of the bodies really creeped me out. AHH I almost forgot! While in Rome, we went to a catacomb!! Now that was creepy!!! The walls were covered with monks skulls and their other bones were used as a decorative pattern across the ceiling and the walls. There were even a few kids up there... And there was a eerie saying on the ground. It said... What you are we once were. What we are you will soon become... dun dun dunnn. It was creepy... Ok, back to the story. On our way back from Pompei our bus BROKE DOWN! omg. It sucked. The Italian bus driver was outside with his hands fying everywhere calling his boss. He didnt even know where the spare tire and tools were! So, looks like we were going to be stuck there for a while, so what else do the American girls start.. Jess and I start wa ving at all the semi trucks to see how many of them will honk at us! Blue semi 1 point. Orange 10 points. White 5 points. It was great fun. We got some Aussies to help us, some of the boys even pitched in on a few. That passed those 2 hours pretty quick.
Venice is by far my favorite city so far. The water is SO clean, and bright blue. The houses and little alleys are right out of a fairy tale. Today we went on a gondola ride, which was so much fun. They really show you what the true Venice looks like. I love the houses and hotels that have entrances on the canal. Its so neat to see. Jess and I had lunch today on the Grand Canal. Wow, it was perfect. We both had pizza, and I had to get an Italian coffee. We just sat there for about 2 hours enjoying the scenery and the delicious food. We also wandered around the market, and of course, picked up some gelati on the way to the ferry taxi. We had about an hour to kill before our shuttle bus came, so we picked a spot along the grand canal to dangle our legs and watch the boats go by. One of the ferry taxis went by and the driver started frantically w aving at us, so I waved back and he blew a kiss and yells Ciao Bella! It was pretty funny considering he had a boat full of people. haha. Gotta love Italy.
Tonight is our last night with the tour group, so we have dinner with them in about an hour .. I will be SO sad to leave them all! I have made excellent friendships on this tour and I will be sad to see them pull out without us on the bus. hmph. A little birdie told us that we have a surprise waiting for us tonight... hmmmm. haha. Once again, please please please if you want to go to europe, bookk with Topdeck, they are AMAZING WONDERFUL FABULOUS and I am so glad I chose them! So, ciao for now! I dont think I will have internet until I get back into the states. I will tell you all about Greece then! Can't wait!
Cheers!
