K8y's Adventures...
Hello! i wrote all about my amazing time in Sao Paulo the other day, but somehow it disappeared so here i am again! hopefuuly i'll have more luck this time round!
Ok, so on monday morning Caroline, Charlotte and me arrived at Sao Paulo after an 11 or so hour 'flight from Paris. It was a very tiring journey with little sleep but by the time we had arrived in Brazil this didnt seem to matter. We were met at the airport by Juana and Davina (people from the brazilian voluntary organisation-Experimento) who were really lovely! we then met all the other wicked english people and finally lugged all our luggage to the mini bus outside of the airport. Me having the biggest and heaviest bag (7 kilos overweight!) and not the traditional traveller rucksack which most had!-that is apart from Paul, who's bag had decided to stay at heathrow :( and so he was restricted to wearing jeans and a hoody for the first few days in the new warm brazilian summer climate!! we all got on board the mini bus and headed for the hotel, the journey took about an hour as we hit rush hour and the hotel was quite afr from the airport. First impressions of Sao Paulo were 'wow'! i don't think any of us could believe how huge it is, in fact we later found out that it is the 3rd largest city in the world! The journey to the hotel showed us both the highs and lows of the city-from the favellas-(slums) made from mere rubbish scraps, to historic buildings with lush plantations, from sky scrapers plastered in graffiti to a fantastic cathedral towering over the centre of the city, with a pathway of palm trees leading up to it. It was all a very surreal experience and what with the lack of sleep, nothing seemed quite real! After a good night's sleep we began to experience what Sao Paulo had to offer, from glorious sunshine to torrential rain, from salsa classes to portugese lessons at a nearby school. We went to a hot dog place where you could choose pretty much anything under the sun to have with it, from mash potato to sweetcorn! we tried out the 'caprinha'-a traditional brazilian drink which can only be described as the strongest drink ive ever had!! which led to have an amazing night out in a samba club where they had a band play, and then drummers and dancers from the carnaval-in full costume, and then just music playing with extreme strobe lighting effects-epileptics stay clear. My feet finally gave up and we caught a taxi back to the hotel, before getting up again to learn yet more portugese-Although my portugese is still far from decent! I also visited an art gallery with a strange quote-"Dont stand on the ants, don't kill the cockroaches"!!-any interpretations!? We experienced the crazy brazilian driving and lots, lots more. I'm sure once I upload my pictures I can tell of more tales. But now I gota sleep! Hope all is well! xxxx
