After recuperating from Oktoberfest, a few of us made way to Berlin. The hostel we stayed at was cheap, has an indoor pool, sauna and an all you can eat breakfast…Jackpot. Our first day we took a free historical tour around the city, and became quickly familiar with German history. This country has been through two world wars and it still seems to be running quite efficiently. Our second day here, we decided to experience a darker side of Germany, visiting a small eastern town called Oranienburg, which is home to former Sachsenhausen concentration camp. This tour made very clear, the brutal reality of the terrifying events that occurred during this era. As you walk around the camp, an eerie silence falls upon you, creating an atmosphere no textbooks could ever create. Some of the photos do not do justice for what the former concentration camp was really like. Our third say here we decided to do something different. We took a tour which took us through the street art and the unseen districts of Berlin. With Berlin's dark past, this tour created a new bright beginning for this city. Ending our stay in Berlin with a free tour through the typography of terror, created new vivid images of the history of World War II.
Off to Europe's capital, Brussels Belgium!
