At least 3000km later we're in Cairns. Made it alive thank god!
From sydney we headed up to surfers paradise where we'd agreed to meet a few people. Got there easter weekend and found the prices had been increased by quite a bit. Whole place was packed but managed to get a motel for the great price of 210 dollars a night. You do the maths. Although this shot our budget down surfers was great, huge surf and lots of sun, goon* and sunburn. In the evening headed to a local club, of which they're are loads. We went to the cheapest and got a live band called Ramjet who were pretty awesome, playing classics like; RATM, clapton, nirvana, pearl jam etc.
Drove through brisbane and picked us up a new campervan with beds wheyyy.
Next stop sunshine coast and plenty of beaches and surf; we hit every beach, of which maroochydore was best (also no salt as off a river). Heading up the coast we hit Noosa, the next big town which was a great place although the surf sucked ass. We managed to meet up with the other lads, bought a bottle of wine each and headed for the beach. One hangover later (and worken up by the council for illegal camping, boo!) we headed for Bundaberg, mainly so we could head for the distlliery and get us some free booze, and of course soak up the beautiful landscape... Rum was tasty, would have bought some as a gift but none of us thought it'd survive the trip back.
Truely gutted, we realised we had no money for Fraser island!! So headed for the beef capital : Rockhampton and got ourselves a nice rump.
Townsville up next, which had a free zoo, checked that out and saw more spiders than we had the whole trip up there. Literally every tree was covered in 5 inch golden orbs. Also saw a monkey and couple koalas.
Desperately broke, we sit where we're writing: Cairns. Beautiful city, and crazy hot, almost as humid as thailand. No surf, but did hire a boat and went fishing which was great fun. No little ponsy fish either, salmon/bream/ giant mud crabs. Awesome. Next day we went on a cruise to the barrier reef; was th cheapest boat and eneded up on a little catamaran in rough seas, that was a laugh, but got to see the reef which was gorgeous if a little overrated. We're now budgeting for NZ and can't wait for the next leg of the trip.
Love to all xxxx
*Goon: 4 litres of white wine (or fruity lexia) @ 11.5 % for 5 quid. It's not tasty.
