Hey everyone, Vik here. I thought I should write an update as we are getting a bit behind, we are just too busy having fun! :D
Lots has happened since Wellington, I will try and give a run down of what we have been up to, I am bound to forget loads but at least it will give us something new to tell you when we get back.
From Wellington we had to get a ferry over to the south island, we woke up at 6am to stormy weather and the locals telling us that they wouldn't brave going on the ferry today...didn't bode well for my sea sickness. We made it alive and headed for Nelson where after days of the weather being crap we got to skydive! I have to say it is the best thing I have ever done, not as scary as it seems and freefalling is the biggest rush, as soon as I landed I wanted to go straight back up and start over again. The only scary bit of the whole experience is watching Chris sit on the edge of the door then suddenly just vanish in a split second..not good when you are next :s. Most of us have got videos and photos of the trip so you can all have a look at how stupid we all look.
Next stop was the 'poo pub', a pub owned by a crazy old man who we are told has been here since he travelled over with captain cook. He is about 90 years old and cooked a slap up meal for the entire bus before we had a fancy dress party. I don't really need to explain the party, the photos of Chris and Steve speak for themselves.
Franz Josef was next on the list, it is a tiny little villiage with only 1300 residents and the whole place revolves around the tourism on the immense glacier it is next to. We all signed up and did a full day (8 HOURS OF WALKING) hike. It absolutely killed me but it was one of the best things I have done since starting travelling. Walking on ice was a lot harder than I imagined, so many people fell over, with a couple sliding into cracks in the ice..worrying when we were told people have died on the glacier. I didn't do anything that dramatic, just managed to put my foot down into a deep puddle of ice water and completely soaked my leg. There were tiny tunnels you had to push yourself through, as well as jumping over 10m deep cracks in the ice..not terrifying at all!
The south island is the most beauitful place I have ever been, with bright blue lakes, snow topped mountains, glaciers and clear blue sky everywhere you go, every photograph looks like a postcard. I think everyone needs to put it on their list of must see places.
Two more days to go until we loose Steve and hit LA, bring on the sun again!
That was a quick rundown as I am running out of internet credit now, love to everyone back home, only 2 months until you get to see our faces again ;)
Love Vik xxxx
