So this Post will cover the last 4 days of my visit to Portugal and the wonderful city of Guimaraes.
So after repeated efforts to say goodbye to this city and to my new friends I have to say I failed miserably and stayed put until 3 hours short of my flight out of Porto. So Tuesday was quiet a hard day as we had drank quiet a lot and hadn't gone to sleep before sun-up! Tuesday signals the start of what will be 4 Dinner Parties with amazing food, drinks, company and very late nights. Tonight it is Telmas turn to cook and on the menu is Rissoto and to go with it Ofcourse 5L of red wine. Tonight Celia & Patricia are joining myself, Chris and Telma. One thing to note is dinner doesn't start till after 11pm here as everyone works late!
The dinner was incredible and we all ate too much and by 4am we had finished the wine so iit was on to the Armaretto, Saki and Port. At some point it all hit me and I all of a sudden became very drunk and passed out upright in the chair!
Wednesday was another day of sleeping and bad hangovers. Telma and I did in the end manage to go for a nice walk to the park and enjoy some of the rare sunshine here at this time of the year! Tonight it is my turn to cook and on the menu is Ratatouille and Chickpea Burgers along with Ruis Entree creation. Tonight there was to be 5 of us for dinner but we thought we would make extras I case people wanted for the next day! We started very late with the cooking about 10 but it was good because Rui and Cris were there to help me. Rui had made this entree which consisted of a big round loaf of bread hollowed out and the inside was stuffed with mince, 4 different types of cheese, tomato paste and the hollowed bread - this was baked in the oven and then served as a dip where you could put on toastadillas. To be honest this was a meal in itself and when we realized we had grossly over-estimated how much food we had it was too late! The Ratatouille turned out a bit too salty and the Vege burgers not salty enough but no worries everyone seemed to enjoy and by the time we ate at 2am we were all on our way to being quite drunk again! Rui had been talking about a Vegetarian Lasagne he makes and we all decided tommorow night would be another big cook-up at Cris's Place!
Thursday was another day of sleep and soar bellies from too much food and wine. I certainly can't drink like I used too and I have been eating so much my belly hurts but why not it's not something I always do and in a weeks time I can go back to watching what I eat! At tonight's dinner there was Patricia, Rui, Celia, Telma, Cris and Myself. Rui had made the lasagne at his place and basically just needed to heat up at Cris's which made for a more relaxed start to the evening and more drinking. I was really struggling to drink tonight as all the rich food and alcohol was being rejected by my body - however being with friends in Portugsl what choice did I have. The Lasagne was incredible to say the least - made with Tofu and Soy mince - I am starting to Realize Cris and all her friends really know how to cook and have a good time. Another night that lead to a 7am finish - I don't know how much more of this my body can take :)
Friday Telma and I had organized to have breakfast with Celia - Telmas sister. Unfortunately we overslept but managed to make it for a late 11:45am breakfast of Portuguese Coffee and Pastries. Celia was so kind and brought one of each of the famous Portuguese Pastries for which would be my breakfast for tommorow! We then went and visited Cris at her work and went for coffee! Cris's friend Haffa was coming over tonight to cook Franzanbenger (little French) the most famous of Portuguese cuisine - a burger type concoction consisting of soft white bread, cheese, beef steak, ham, chorizo, sausage, more cheese, bread, more cheese and a fried egg on top - served in a bowl and drenched in a secret spicy tomato sauce with frites. The idea is the sauce soaks into the bread and frites! At about 10pm Haffa and Nuno 2 friends of Cris's came around and we had a few drinks whilst Haffa started on the frangazingers - Haffas husband is the manager of a restraint that specializes in this dish so she was lucky enough to get the secret sauce all made up and ready to go.
The dish was a welcome overload of meat after a week of vegan meals! We had a few drinks, laughs and an amazing meal - I was the only one who nearly managed to finish it!
