Terrible night sleep as June developed a full blown head cold and spent all night congested coughing and sneezing tossing and turning ..... Keeping Nigel awake too! Nice breakfast with the rest of the KE adventure crew before they headed back down to Lukla and we headed up on the long climb to Namche Bazaar. We entered the national park and initally we walked beside the river bed before crossing 2 increasingly higher suspension bridges ! Juney still a bit nervo...

Leisurely start to the day. We left Phadking at 0900 for a 3 hour walk to our next stop Monjo. We have walked past many mules and other cow like animals transporting potatoes, rice and cement between Lukla and Namche Bazaar. The weather has been amazing with plenty of sunshine which has meant we have had amazing views of the mountains and countryside! One outstanding view was of ....... 0430 the alarm sounded for our big day. Day 1 in the Himalayas. The journey to the airport wasn't without incident when our 4x4 vehicle got stuck in a hole in the middle of the road ! Check in at Kathmandu was seamless and at 0700 we launched for the short trip to Lukla. The Dornier 228 was full of Trekkers - mostly going to Base Camp. A much quieter day spent mainly relaxing in the surroundings of the beautiful Dwarikas Hotel having had a quick trip back to Thamel to get some money and teeshirts, only to check the weather forecast and find the area we are trekking to is expecting rain ! That'll teach us. And Guess what Nigel's forgotten ..... A raincoat ! Well after a generally good nice sleep ( Poor Nige still recovering from bad cough so bit interrupted ) up for lovely breakfast and first sight of our hotel as it was dark when we arrived last night! It is a beautifully restored Nepalese Heritage Hotel originally built and bought by a Mr Dwarika and is a wonderful retreat from the general hubbub from the city itself despite being in the middle of it all.
