Hello everyone
So Christmas is next week! I expect you guys are surrounded by the usual tat on TV and Christmas sparkle. Normally at this time of year I would be staggering from one Christmas party to the next and wondering whether my liver was going to hold out till the next year...Im sure that's the same for most of you!
I am on the other hand having a very chilled and amazing time in Thailand. So much to tell you as its been a while since I wrote but I wanted to ensure I had lots of happy news to tell you as my last blog update seem to concern a few people!
So since I last wrote there has been tough times again and then much happier. Ill start with leaving Singapore.
So I arrived in Krabi town about a 2 weeks ago (bit of a hole - not sure why no one told me about this) but it was probably a good thing as I needed a bit of down time...I arrived in Krabi with what appeared to be a collection of spots on my face, arms and legs. I first noticed this in Singapore and thought maybe it was some kind of strange bite collection...until the girl who I met in the hostel (happened to be a DR) told me it was bed bugs. At first they didnt really bother me, the just looked a bit odd but once I arrived in Krabi they all started to swell up and go red and within the first 24hrs of arriving I looked like I had chicken pox, I was devastated. Now Im not good at dealing with illnesses at the best of times but to be covered in this awful rash made me feel like such a freak and I ended up hibernating in my hotel room for 4 days. It was pretty hideous and not a great week. I also found one of the critters in my bag (cue told loss of the plot and tears to Helen on the phone) So I dragged my entire rucksack to the cleaners to get cleaned. I think they though I was mental, I did look it..
Anyway all is sorted now just shook me up for a few days but Im please to report no more unusual bites...
So the next stop was Railay which is near Krabi (about 20mins by boat) but it is a very cute little town with beaches either side. After being VERY good and looking for cheap accommodation (I do still have standards though especially after bed bug gate) I went about my meeting people trick i.e propping up the local bar as by this point my face was acceptable for public viewing and I met a really nice group of Australians who were here on holiday I spent two days / nights hanging out with them and went and watched a fire show in the evenings and then drank buckets. If travelling doesn't force you to re live your youth nothing does...in fact I have started bending the truth about my age, I feel that 28 yrs is more acceptable and Im getting away with it :)
So I had a few good nights partying and then relaxing during the day, I managed to do a snorkelling trip which was quite cool but other then that I really just chilled and drank buckets (for those of you who dont know what buckets are they are basically spirits and mixers...of large measures served in a bucket...pure class).
So after a few days I decided that it best to go to Koh Phi Phi and start some diving...which is where I am now...
It was a bit of a nightmare the first day finding accommodation I tried so hard to find the cheapest thing possible, this involved dragging my rucksack (which is still really heavy even though I sent a load of stuff back to my Mums) up and down the beach for 2 hrs, eventually I admitted defeat and dropped my bag at a local dive shop and then walked for another 2hrs until I found something. Its still not as cheap as I would like but its really cosy and safe and the lady who runs the place is lovely.
So I have been here for nearly a week and Im having such a great time, Im meeting more people in particular through the dive school which I have been too. I went for 2 brilliant dives a few days back, it helped even more as the instructor is really good and spent a lot of time with me teaching me stuff that I had forgotten from my Padi course...so Im off to do a Wreck dive with him in a couple of days which Im really excited about and I really want to do my advanced whilst Im away.
Im more settled and looking forward to Christmas, geneally Im very happy at the moment...just looking forward to the next adventure, I have just applied for a Turtle conservation project in Malaysia so we will see what happens...
Miss you and love you all
