Fiji - The Yasawa Islands
A very short blog this time !
Fiji was always going to be two weeks of pure relaxation , time to chill out and top up the tans so with that in mind here is a quick update .
Fiji is made up of over 300 islands of which 50 or so are habitable so once we arrived into the mainland of Nadi we took a couple of nights stay to decide on what 3 islands we going to stay at over the following two weeks .
Once decided and armed with a island hopping boat pass we took to the water and headed for Octopus resort , a beautiful resort with a white sandy beach , swimming pool , great snorkeling and evening entertainment including the Fijian meke ( Fijian song and dance by the locals) . I (Mark) took part in the kava ceremony . Kava is a ground down pepper root which is mixed with water and is said to give a relaxed / chilled out sensation with a slight tingle . This is taken very seriously by Fijians and I was made the Chief and I had my own personal spokesman alongside me to give out orders . Just a little fun !
After 3 nights here we moved on to Botaira resort. A similar styled resort with beautifully artistic hand decoratedBures(wooden huts ) and from their we stayed 5 nights at Barefoot lodge offering 3 beaches to chose from .
It was at Barefoot lodge where we had the highlights of our trip. Snorkeling with reef sharks just a few meters beneath us and being the only one to catch a fish on the fishing trip . A prize winning barracuda which even made it to the dinner table !
Completely relaxed and ready for some city life , the next stop is Sydney !
Enjoy
