Hay guys,
Writing back in San Jose, where we have stopped before going to LA tomorrow. The last week has been so much fun. After La Fortuna, which was crazily nice, we moved onto Monteverde, whcih we got to through a combination of boat and bus. It has the name called 'the cloudforest', and once we got there we realised why. It is shrouded in complete fog, and also there was a massive rainforest nearby, the main attraction. The next day we went into the park, which was cool. We couldn't afford a guide, or more we wouldnt pay the ridiculous 15 dollars each, and so we went onto look for the kwetzel bird for ourselves. It is supposed to be really rare and no one ever sees it, but guess what....we saw it. What s***ty guides they obviously are. After the forest we went to the serpentarium where i saw my first kane toads and poison dart frogs. It was pretty cool but nothing I havent seen in Asia. We also zip wired through canopy which was cool. A company have made masisve zip wires, some hundreds of metres high stretching across the canopies. We had been recommended it and it was sensational, however, the wire wasnt wet so we didnt experience the full speed.sigh.
We then left for Manuel Antonio,a small beach town with an island feel to it. It was really awesome, the beach was nice, the weather was hot but not too intense and the water was warm. After an afternoon of relaxing and a night of drinking, the next day we went to the national park, where we were looking out for more wildlife. We gave that a quick go, although we did see some cool crabs and massive iguanas, but then we hit the beautiful beach within the park. It was nice but the seasoned thieves, that are the white faced monkeys, made you constantly wary of your belongings. After a day of burning for some, we went back to the cheesy salsa playing club and made the most of the few chances to dance we had. We ripped up the dance floor.
From Manuel Antonio we came back to San Jose, the concrete capital Jungle. It is quite nice but I dont wanna keep coming back here. Then it was off to Tortuguero, a place on the West coast, where we had to take a 4 hour speed boat ride to get to. It was so nice. We had a guide called Willis, who pointed wildlife out and we saw loads. Crocodiles, toucans, a green mccaw, apparently only 200 of them in the country so that was cool, iguanas, sloths. It was a trully awesome day and willis was a really nice guy. Our accomodation was nice as well, small huts on the edge of the beach. In the evening we went looking for leatherback turtles, which lay their eggs on the beach. Unfortunately we didn't see any actual turtles, however, we saw some nests and some tracks made by a leatherback from the night before. You wonder if you would see the tracks but man, the turtles are massive. A couple of days spent in Tortuguero and then after stopping by in a sloth sanctuary, which was cool. On a detour, the costa ricans associate the sloth with one of the 7 deadly sins, and therefore if they see one, they beat them up and kill them. Its horrible. they are quite ugly, but very sweet.lol.
So tortuguero was finished and then we went to Cahuita, which was another beach town. It was really nice, it had a swiimming pool thoguh so i didnt actually go to the beach that much, which now looking back is a bit of a waste. The chlorine in the poole also made my hair go a tinge of green, God's way of saying I should have made the most of the caribbean sea. It was a really nice pace though, so chilled out, and Lauren and I decided that we didnt want to go back to San Jose to wait for 3 days for our flight, so we stayed in Puerdo Vierjo, another beach town 20 minutes away for a couple of nights. We stayed in this awesome hostel called Rocking Jays. We slept in tents at night and it was a really chilled out place. Time went so quick, it is amazing how doing nothing but sleeping and reading can fly by.....not when you are at home. I think that's what is so cool about travelling, you don't have to do something for the sake of it to enjoy yourself, sometimes you just sit back and look around and think, this is amazing.
So now we are back in San jose and have our flight tomorrow to LA. Have fun everyone and I will see you when I get back. Where does 7 months go?????
