Well here I am again - on the road doing a journal from somewhere half way round the world, and this will no doubt be the first of many!
Sunday started off a really hard day as I had to say my final goodbyes at the airport before I began over a days travel by myself to Santiago via London and Sao Paulo. I actually got to Santiago 2 hours ahead of schedule as my original flight had been 'canceled', but sods law was that the girls had been delayed by the same length of time on their flight from Auckland. Since I had a bit of time to kill in the airport I found myself a quiet little corner of the terminal to read the letters Hutch and my family had given me. Things slowly started to sink in that after months of planning and a hectic 2 weeks before trying to get everything sorted I was finally here!!
It seemed like ages for the girls to arrive and I thought every person who walked in my direction waving was them so there were loads of false alarms but eventually that moment 5 months ago when I last saw them and said "see you in Santiago" had arrived!
Santiago was pretty cold and the hostel was even colder inside than it was outside! It's a nice enough city but there wasn't really anything of note to do or see so we just wandered around and took in daily life, which was good as it also gave us all a chance to sort out our body clocks and to catch up!
After staying in Santiago Monday and Tuesday nights we decided that was enough and we would head over the Andes to Mendoza in Argentina.
Thankfully we made it through customs ok despite Becky having lost her immigration card - didn't fancy being held at a border thousands of meters up in the Andes! The bus ride through the mountains offered some spectacular scenery and as we passed through some remote Andean settlements I felt like after a quiet couple of days in Santiago to get us set we were on properly on our way now!
