Well today traveled up from Paihia to check out further up north. The most northerly point of NZ was the destination - Cape Reinga. On the was up we stopped over to have a look around a forest and hug a tree...yes I have been hugging trees. Kuiri trees. These are the native trees of NZ and has spiritual powers and stuff. Havnt been overcome by anything spiritual, well not yet anyhow. We then headed up to Cape Reinga, which is a beautiful spot with a small lighthouse. This again has Maori spiritual meanings and is where the soul of the departed go to be in the afterlife. It is realy nice spot. looking out from the bay you couldnt tell were abouts the sky and the sea met. We then headed back down the coast and stopped at another beach to do some snadboarding. basically lying on a board and skimming way fast down a massive sand dune. that was fun. we then drove along on the bus down the 90 mile beach (which in fact is not 90 miles long, about 75 I think) We saw a seal on the beach which quickly pottered off into the sea when he saw us coming. The picture is of a car that was in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now burried under the beach. Stopping for fish and chips (no mushy peas and gravy tho - boo!) we headed back to Paihia for another night.
The next day in Paihia was pretty much free for whatever so me and vicky took out the bikes and headed up to Hururu falls. The weather up to this point had been near enough perfect untill today. We got blown away and pelted with rain. It was fun tho. A bit of a treck and mostly up hill and did hurt alot but was worth it. The photos up to this point will have to be put on later - cos computer say NO! Have met some nice people. Vicky is from England and is great and there was James (American) who has left now and Andrew (Oz).
Heading out of Paihia this morning back to Aukland we pass through and visit another Kuari forest for some more tree hugging. The NZ people love their trees! It did have one of the biggest trees in the world in this forest. It was over 2500 yrs old and had girth of 13 meters. It was massive. Didnt hug that one but good to see. We carried on down and back into Aukland which is where i am sat now. Only going to be here breifly as I am heading south to Roturua tommorow morning.
Will get me photos put on as soon as, but for now, good eve to you all. xxx
