Helo england. Its been a while so must engage my brain to remember what ive been up to. Queenstown is fab, i love the place. Ive Bungied myself silly. Its so easy to get taken in by all the extream activities as there is someone selling something crazy on every corner you turn. I did slow down for a day and take a trip to stunning Milford Sounds. Sailed out for about 2 hours through the foird to the Tazman sea and back again. Was a realy loevly place.
We said a sorryfull fairwell to Queenstown then headed onwards to Dunedin. Stopping at arrowtown, a sleepy little town like something out of a Wild western. Dunedin is known as Edinburgh of the south and does have Scotish links poping up every now and then however cant realy see how its linked havin not been to Scotland myself. Its quite a big city that has NZ biggest Univerity. There isnt an awfull lot going on so just strolled around most of the day.
Dunedin to Lake Tekapo. This is another of NZ many lovely spots. the lakes here are so blue, like aqua marine. Oh yes before we headed out of Dunedin we walked up the worlds (yes the WORLDS) steepest street. my lungs nearly exploded and my legs caved in but made it to the top. It aint very long street but boy is it steep. Traveling to Tekapo the sceanery is very different . its a lot flatter on the plains and dryer as there is very little rainfall in this area. Not as lush and green as we are used to seeing. Lake Tekapo is realy nice. There isnt much there at all so we opened up the BBQ and cooked up a feast that night. Bet you wont be BBQ in England any time soon! (sorry had to put that dig in!)
Dunedin to Christchurch next. This is a large cities with loadsa shops and arty things going on so headed over to the Art gallery to look at excibition by artist Ron Mueck. he does sculptures that are so lifelkie you think they are ging to open their eyes and strike up a conversation with you any moment. A few of that evening headed out to watch the NZ ITM cup final at the stadium in Christchuch. I will say at this point that I have never been to a rugby match however did enjoy it. I couldnt beleive how empty the place was considering it was a final.
Anyway next stop. (gosh Ive not written on here for ages, sorry people) Kaikoura. This is a kind of beach town, well on a peninsula. There is a fur seal colony so we stopped there to agrivate the seals by taking loads of photos. The afternoon a few of the group and myself of course went out with one of the local fishermen to go crayfishing. Well we stood on the boat and watched him drag in the cage with the crayfish in. We then headed back to his place whilst he prepared and cooked our catch. While this was happening he did howver keep bringing out botles and bottles of wine, and before we knew it we were all plastered! Dropped back at the hostel with our cooked dinner of an $80 (40quid) worth crayfish each we scoffed it down like it was going to run off our plates. I cant actually remember eating mine. The next morning was an early start with a bad head to go out to swim with the wild dusky dolphins. We were suited up and taken out to sea to find the Dolphines. In half an hour we were in the water with them. I was in there about a minute and looked down and there one was swimming a circle around me, amazing! To get there atention you have to be 'dolphine like', whatever that means. Make a noise like a dolphine. So you can imagine the scene of about 20 tourists snorkeling in the sea making dodgy noises, very funny. After half an hour of bobbing around in the sea however the seasickness came on me and before I knew it was chucking up. Also got cramp so very green and with one leg I made my way back to the boat. On the boat I was releived to see another 7 people throwing up into buckets so at least I knew then that it was the seasickness and not hangover.
Anyway I am heading back to christchurch this afternoon as I fly onwards to Oz the day afetr tommorow so my next post may be from sunny Australia. Will be in touch soon, keep me posted on anything from home. Love lots xxxxx
