Huacachina - Home of many Dune buggies and a lot of dunes, sand and sun!
The penultimate Bus Journey wasn't too hazardous as we travelled cama suite, luxury on a bus ahhhhhhhh.
We arrived on Tuesday and the little town was deserted….it is tiny with all the restaurants and hostels situated around a little lagoon in the middle of the town, surrounded by huge huge sand dunes. There is not a lot to do here but the main activity is going for a ride on the sand dunes in a buggy. After a few days of chilling around our hostel pool and enjoying the lovely sunshine we decided we should get involved and booked a buggy tour for the afternoon. It was like being on a rollercoaster…strapped in to the buggy we were whisked about up and down the sand dunes, some of the drops were almost vertical and I don't know how the buggy doesn't roll over. We were literally eating sand and not able to see from the wind and sand blowing in your face. After the eventful ride we got dropped off at the top of the sand dunes and given a board to have a go at sand boarding. After waxing our boards we were let loose on the slopes and you could either lay on them or try standing up. The photos are a little deceiving and Lewis managed to get a good pic before continuously falling on my arse. Luckily for us, ,the sand buggy was at the bottom of the slope ready to take us up to the top again to have another go. We saw people who had rented boards and they had the difficult struggle of climbing back up the dunes…..sod that! After a few more dunes we had another adventure ride in the buggy and stopped at the top to watch the sunset.
That was basically all we did in Huacachina! After talking to other travellers, it didn't sound like Lima had a lot going for it, so we decided to take advantage of the lovely weather and stay in Huacachina for 6 days before our flight to cold Patagonia!!
