This is our last blog from New Zealand (and it will be a very short blog!) and it feels sad to be saying goodbye, partly because we have had such a good time here, and partly because it means that our trip really is ending soon! We have only spent one and a half days in Auckland and so it has been a whistle-stop tour but we have enjoyed it alot, Auckland is a really nice city.
After we had driven up here and taken Daisy the car back we just wandered around for the afternoon, getting the feel of the city centre and the harbour. We then napped as we have become old people who need to nap frequently...but that is the point of a holiday afterall!! We had a little walk in the evening before dinner, but all in all it was a quiet day.
We ventured upto the Sky Tower today where we had a lovely lunch in the revolving restaurant overlooking the city and harbour. It was gorgeous and we were lucky with the weather too as the showers held off for a couple of hours. We then headed off to Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Adventure and Underwater Experience...aka an aquarium which also included a penguin environment complete with real snow, ice and a pool for the pengiuns. We took a ride on the Snow-Cat through the environment getting up close to the penguins (through windows) which made Jo quite excitable! Then we watched the Stingray feeding which was quite cool before checking out all the other fish, including sharks through a glass tunnel, and we saw an octopus for the first time!
This evening we went for a couple of cocktails at the Minus 5 degrees ice bar! It was amazing! Everything apart from the floor and ceiling was made from ice - the bar, benches, sculptures and the glasses! You were given boots, coats and two pairs of gloves to wrap up in and had a maximum time of 30 minutes in there. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos in there but we paid to have a couple taken and will upload them as soon as they go onto the minus 5 website so you can all have a look at what it was like!
Well, we had better go and pack now as we head upto Fiji in the morning! We will be in touch soon.
Lots of love, Joanne and David xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS. David has ANOTHER cold! He has developed the world's weakest immune system on this trip! He rarely gets ill at home...loser. Byeeeeee! xxx
