Oceanside, San Diego, California
Arrowood golf course was the location to host the Oceanside open. I did not know too much about the course or the players in the field. As the tee times came out I quickly realized I was in good company! Several PGA tour players were playing and the quality of players in the field was high.
My game feels pretty good and was always going to be a good test of where I am at. Not everyone gets the opportunity to tee it up against these guys so I was relishing the opportunity to give it a crack.
The first of three rounds started off poorly making two early bogeys but played well after that to post a 74. This was in the middle of the pack.
The greens were very soft and the ball was spinning off the green, the greenside rough was really thick and hard to get up and down. I played with Austin graham who has played on the PGA tour this year and was great company. The short game on these guys is mind blowing! They are soooooo good around the green.
Day 2 got off to a poor start once again and really struggled in windy conditions, however so did the rest of ye field so a 78 didn't throw me too far back.
Day 3 and final round got off to a good start and I found myself -3 through 11 and jumping up spots in the field. I finished with a 72, disappointing finish but all in all a very good experience and learnt a lot. I played with a nationwide tour player and Parker McLaughlin who has won a couple of mill on the PGA tour, he gave me some great insight about how he prepares, what he is working on in his swing and general experiences on tour. I finished in a tie for 18th, solid start. be sure to check out my pictures and videos of the course.
Next event is bear creek which is apparently an awesome course. Looking forward to it!
