We've been in New Zealand for nearly a week now and Peter has been competing in their Grand Prix and North Island Championships with the NZ Nationals to come in the next few days. On Sunday we started at Thames where the terrain was steep and hilly with targets fairly close. From there we moved to Hamilton and the Grand Prix at the Waikato Gun Club. The ground was flat and set in amongst fields of corn but there we're some great targets and the stands were in the corn, in the open and on elevated stands.
On Tuesday night we moved to Rotorua where Wednesday was spent travelling to the coast and a day of sea fishing. A highlight of the fishing trip was travelling near White Island which is an active volcano. While everyone else went fishing I spent the day at the Polynesian Spa having a dip in the hot pools and a massage. I visited the shops and had lunch in Rotorua and rested up in the afternoon.
Today was the first day of shooting at Rotorua with lots of walking up and down steep hills and Peter shooting at some big targets. His shooting so far has been ok but not good enough to win any prizes. I'll upload some photos but they don't really give a sense of the depth of the terrain.
