This morning we boarded a cruise heading for Doubtful Sound, bigger than Milford Sound and further south. Our boat left Manapouri and travelled for an hour across Lake Manapouri. We passed islands and enjoyed the mountainous scenery along the way. On arriving at the other end of the lake we got onto a bus for a trip past the power station and over Wilmot Pass. This was a steep gravel road stretching for 22km over the mountains to Doubtful Sound. The Sound wove its way out to the Tasman Sea and we enjoyed seeing yet more mountains, waterfalls and islands. On reaching the sea we stopped at some rocky outcrops to see a seal colony. By this stage the weather was starting to close in but we were on our way back so it didn't really matter. We took a slightly different route back, entering one of the arms of the Sound for a closer look at the vegetation. By the time we got back to Manapouri the weather had cleared and the sun was starting to break through.
