After a very interesting overnight train from Surat Thani up to Bangkok we arrived in Bangkok on the 21st. We were picked up by mini bus and had a day of exploring to do. We were taken to the floating market where they have normal market stalls and they also have boats which trade as market stalls along the river. You can rent a boat and sail along the narrow river and stop at any of the stalls you fancy along the way. We then headed to the River Kwai. This is where the famous bridge is and we walked over it. We stopped for lunch and then visited a museum about the bridge over the Kwai. It was built by British and Australian Prisoners Of War who were captured by the Japanese and made to build the bridge in order to help the Japanese military supply their troops in Burma. in the evening we went out for dinner as it was the last night of the trip. We ate in a local restaurant which has been there for 25 years and is famous with the locals.
On the 22nd Grant and I moved to another hotel in Bangkok. We then went and visited the Reclining Buddha, which is a huge gold statue of a Buddha lying on his side. The we went inot the Grand Palace and had a look about it. at night we met the group for dinner before everyone headed their seperate ways.
Our last day in Bangkok was the 23rd. Grant and I got the ferry from near our hotel down to the last stop on the river. We then went into the newer part of Bangkok. We had a look round the shopping area and went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. Got the ferry back to the hotel in the evening.
We left for Hong Kong on the 24th, but went to see Koh San Road first. This is the most famous street in Bangkok and is full of market type shops selling rubbish to foreign visitors, lol. It was only one street away from where we were staying.
