As we dropped down into Auckland the Landscape was so similar to England, it was nice to green lush green fields and a motorway that resembled Britain! I arrived with Alex and Steff, they had a shuttle organised and I was very happy that Lyndsay was picking me! This was going to be an easy ride to where I was staying!
I arrived with Lyndsay to my own room and double bed! Luxury! However the climate could have been different, I was used to the heat now so I was freezing in NZ! 14 days later Ive acclimatized a lot and don't feel it as much, but definitely going to chase the sun in Australia!
NZ is very chilled out, the people are relaxed and friendly, even in the city. There didn't seem to be a big going out clubbing vibe but local areas to drink like Chapel Allerton in Leeds. There was alsoa huge café culture, everyone seemed to be in cafes at lunchtime, in fact I think they were busy most of the day! Eating cream cheese bagels and drinking coffee all day was something I could get quite used too!
I went to the Auckland Art Gallery and saw a lot of the history as well as the Walters Prize, similar award to the Northern Art Prize. I also went to the Harbour, walked around |Auckland seeing the sites and parks. Got completed drenched one day walking to the Auckland Museum! I loved it there, it was absolutely huge and the exhibitions were exquisite, the curators have done an amazing job there! When trying to find your way out you stumble across more galleries! I think one day wasn't enough to see everything let alone absorb the information!
I also managed to get a patch repair on my broken tooth! A mear $400 for it! Argh! Hey hoe at least I can eat on both sides again ( so long as its soft) We watched both the New Zealand and Austrailian matches at the pub and asvisitor to the NZ I was fully behind them! It was great to be shouting on the winning team for once!! Unlike England's useless performance that a lot of us in the hostels had got up at 4am to watch!! For my last weekend, Linz and Gregor took me to the Coromandels which is about a 3 hour drive South East of Auckland to a Batch ( A beach house). It was amazing the landscape so beautiful and we had our own private baywith 6 other batches. So the weekend was spent walking around the small town near by, eating, drinking and fishing! Oooo the fishing was so much fun! I was so happy to have caught one on my line! And jeese the think was hard to hold! Seriously - Im not exaggerating! Lol Supposedly the fish in the area were pretty big !However I lost it coming in! L We failed to catch our tea but had salmon in the fridge for back up! But we were still determined so Sunday morning we were back out on to the bay and Linz first line in and caught a large what the local calls a Trout (*********) ! We were made up! However my job which I had offered to do was to bash it on the head! However when it came down to it - I was a complete chicken a couldn't do it! I hear you all saying wimp! Haha! But I swear it looked my in the eye - and then I couldn't do it! However Gregor the brave did and we cooked it up for our lunch!! It was so lovely!! Mmmmm
It was pretty chilled out for me in Auckland and I wasn't gagging at the bit to do bridge climbs etc, but I will be returning to do my exploring later on in my trip so then the photos of me white faced before I do a bungee jump will be posted for you amusement!
Today is the 10th August (bit late posting this) and Im just sat in Auckland Airport awaiting my flight to Sydney! This will be the longest leg of my journey and will settle and find a job, this bit will be very exciting but also a massive test for me! Its been fine travelling so far, you miss things like - Percy Pigs, Cadburys Chocolate buttons and being able to just see your friends at a drop of a hat but your constantly looking forward to your next flight , next accommodation etc so you don't feel very home sick. But I think when you settle and have time to reflect, get a job and work in the day is when you think back to home ! so we'll see ! I cant wait to see Oz however I can quite happily wait to see any of their spiders, snakes, crocodiles, sharks and what ever else seems to be higher in the food change than us!
