Hello from Cairns,
Well I've made it to the land of Oz. I got picked up from the airport at 8am this morning after flying overnight from Singapore yet again I managed not to get any sleep due to a crying child.
After checking in to the Hostel I set off to explore Cairns, it is not as big as I thought it would be but it is nice to be somewhere cooler it is a balmy 26 degrees here. Cairns seems typically Australian everyone is very laid back and there is no rushing around.
As I am only here for 5 days I am going to cram as much in as I can. Tomorrow I am off to Daintree Rainforest for a day trip and on Friday I am off to the Great Barrier Reef if the weather is okay the Ocean is a bit rough here, hopefully I will get some nice photos to upload for you all.
Well I am having trouble uploading photos at the moment, but at least I can update you about what I have been doing. The Daintree Rainforest was great really peaceful and beautiful as was Cape Tribulation beach not quite as sunny as the postcards but still great.
Well ever since I arrived in Cairns the weather has not been good it has been raining, however I couldn't come all the way to Cairns and not go to the Great Barrier Reef. So yesterday I decided to brave the rough seas and go out. It was blowing 25-30 knots so was a bumpy journey out there but once there it was calmer and I even managed to try an Introductory dive which was a little scary but once I remembered to breath not to bad. I also did some snorklling which was cool I didn't manage to 'Find Nemo' although I did see a similar Clown fish and a turtle. Howver I forgot to put some sun cream on the bit of my forehead above my mask and I now have a lovely red strip on my forehead doh.
Today I have been to visit Kuranda on the Skyrail which is a cable car over the tropical rainforest. It was a nice day it is the first day it has been really sunny since I got here. I went to the Koala gardens and got to cuddle a Koala (see the attached picture) they are so cute I could have spend all day there. I caught the scenic railway back from Kuranda to Cairns and it was brillant lovely views of the Barron Gorge and the waterfalls.
Well on my last day in Cairns the sun returned just in time for my white water rafting trip on the Tully rivwhich contains grade 3 & 4 rapids. It was a perfect day not a cloud in the sky and we have a great time in raft number 5. We were quite proud that we managed to navigate our way down the river with our nepalese guide without losing anyone over board and to celebrate this our guide (gilly) decided to flipped us all out of the raft right at the very end. We also did some rock jumping into the the lovely clear pools at the bottom of the river.
Anyway I need to go and pack as I am off to Magnetic Beach in the morning for 3 days hopefully I will be able to upload some photos there.
