From Bolivia we flew into Brazil...On arrival we had a bit of a scare, as there are apparently no Reals (the currency of brazil!) in Brazil! Due to the falling US$ Brazillians are holding onto their money and we couldnt change any US anywhere, which caused problems for our tour leader who has all our money in US. To avoid having to end the tour due to lack of funds, she had to get a cab to a dodgy money changers house, the things she´ll do for us, bless her! We also visited a strange fabric shop/money exchange in Corumba to try and get rid of our cash, which felt very suspect!First stop the Pantanal wetlands, Jess is happy as they have 650 bird species living here. Its about half the size of France and has a huge density of flora and fauna! We stayed in really cool little cabins in a resort/lodge place that had loads of wildlife just wandering about. Some of the animal highlights were: capybara (+babies!), giant anteater, giant otters, caiman, howler monkeys, hyacinth macaws, tucans, loads of cool birds and some cute bats! (Ask Jess for a full list!) We went horseriding and piranha fishing (Kathryn caught 2 fish!), and Jess swam in the caiman/piranha infested water! It was really cool to see the giant river otters, we went on a boat ride so we got really close to them, within metres of where they live and one climbed up onto the bank so we saw its full size of 2 metres - huge! The Pantanal was brilliant, a definite must-do for anyone coming here, so much widllife! Then we went onto Bonito, which is a funny little town but near to some lovely lakes and rivers. We had a nice BBQ by the lake one day, where we also had a swim and used a cool zip line. The second day we went snorkelling in the Rio de Prata, which was really fantastic. The water was amazingly clear so you could see all the fish, who didn´t care about us at all. We rented an underwater camera between the group, so expect to see pictures soon! Apparently there were anancondas in the river - scary! The only downside to Bonito were the cockroaches in the hotel room, too much wildlife! As you know we are in Paraguay now, but we are going back to Brazil tomorrow to the Iguazu Falls which we´ve heard are brilliant, so we will try and be better behaved and update you on those soon! As always, piccies are at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathryandjesstravels/ (yes, that´s kathryn without an n!)Lots of love, K & J
