We had a whirlwind trip around Argentina with many 20 hour+ bus journeys involved, but have hopefully been to most of the major traveller sites. Argentina is the worlds eighth largest country, it has an very diverse climate and landscape. Our first city was Salta. We arrived at 1am after crossing the boarder from Bolivia. Salta is one of Argentina's most elegant capitals with lovely colonial architecture and a nice main plaza. We stayed at hostel Central and were upgraded because the room we had booked wasn't available. While we were in Salta we visted the Museo de Arqueologia de Alta Montana where they have the mummified remains of three high-mountain children sacrifices. We got to see 'the boy' as they rotate the mummified children. We were meant to pay 60 pesos to get in but the lady didn't have change for a 100 note so we got in free! After Salta we caught an over night bus to Puerto Iguazu, where we stayed in STOP hostel. We had lava lamps in the room! From Puerto Iguazu we went to Iguazu falls on my birthday. These waterfalls are magnificant. Around 275 individual cascades, the highest with a drop of over 80 metres. The are strung out along a horseshoe-shaped clif 2.7km long. We then took another over night bus to Argentina's capital city, Buenos Aires, where we stayed at Millhouse. We had a week in the capital city where we ate great steak, wandered around the different districts, including La Boca with its colourful houses and went to a football match where Argentina beat Canada 5-0. We then flew a lot of miles down south to El Calafate which is in Patagonia. From this town we took a day trip to the stunning Perito Moreno Glaciar where we could walk along two kilometres of boardwalks and terraces to view the glaciar from different heights and angles, it was very cold but worth the visit as you just stand and gaze in amazement at its size, Antarctica on the mainland. We then caught yet another overnight, and day bus to Bariloche which is in the Lake District. Bariloche is set on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi and framed by dramatic snow capped mountains, it is also the chocolate capital of Argentina. We stayed in hostel 1004 which is at the top of a tower block and has a great view overlooking the lake. While in Bariloche we took a cable car up to the the top of one of the snow-capped mountians and had an amazing 360 degree view from the revolving restaurant where we had tea and hot chocolate, while we recovered from the bitter cold outside. We then caught our final over night bus in Argentina to Mendoza which apparently has the best wineries in the country on its doorstep. However those of you who know me realise that wineries are wasted on me so we went to an aquarium instead, where we saw the biggest sea turtle in the world. It was really sad though as i don't think the tank was big enough for such a brilliant creature, he should have been in the sea! As it was our last night in Argentina we went out for steak, and steak we got! It was the biggest piece of steak I have ever seen (and I've eaten my fair share of steak). We both managed to finish them though, and the yummy chips. The next day we crossed the boarder into Chile. at the boarder I made a snowman!!
