Well we are still in Kuala Lumpur- Amanda's flat has been too hard to leave with it's comfy sofas, washing machine, bed bug free bed and amazing location! We have mostly been eating lots of nice food and soaking up the atmosphere- we have done some things though!
Last Friday Charles got up super early to queue for the tickets to go up the Petronas towers, when he got there though it was closed due to a public holiday so no luck there. We decided to go up the Menara telecom tower instead which is actually better as you get to go up higher to 258 metres(you only go up to the walkway in the Petronas towers.)It was also a better view as it is 360 degrees and they have amazing binoculars! Our ticket also included going into a seriously depressing 'animal kingdom' where monkeys and iguanas were in tiny tiny cages. We got out of there quickly and went to the Formula 1 experience which was also part of the package. You sit in a racing car shape and play a Formula One simulator around Sepang circuit.Charles loved it so much that he paid to go again!
Today we rented a really sweet taxi driver called Mr Foo for the afternoon and he took us to Batu Caves which is a Hindu shrine in a huge cavern in the mountains. They have the worlds tallest statue of Muragan, a hindu deity that is 42.7metres high and absolutely amazing.Behind it you climb up 272 steps to the cave which is a bit exhausting in 32degree heat but worth it when you get to the top. After we had come back down Mr Foo took us to Genting Highlands which is an hour outside the city.It was all built by one man and has casinos, hotels and shops at 6,000m.The amazing thing about it was that it is up in the clouds so we felt cold for the first time since getting here. The reason we went was to see a Chinese Buddhist temple which was huge and looked stunning above the clouds. They had a very scary display of the ten chambers of hell.Buddhists believe that when you die you go down to hell and then all of your crimes are read out to you.Depending on what your crimes were (some are very small like not eating the food on your plate) you go to a different chamber of hell and the punishments depicted by the statues we saw are pretty graphic and horrific. The upside is that after you have received these horrible punishments you are given a drink to make you forget what happened to you.
Anyway tonight was our last night in KL and we have just been out for a lovely Vietnamese meal with Amanda and her boyfriend Dimitri. We will be very sad to leave but are looking forward to making our way to the Cameron highlands tomorrow
