After Vientiane I was hesitating to reach Vang Vieng, but with all I've read about this city, which should be very nice, I decided to avoid it. I'm really not a fan of huge drinking party like in Koh Pangan in Thailand, Goha or anything else, and I guess the "tubing" there will be the same. It's also risky, lot of travellers died in the last few years and the government did finally something to stop it but apparently they found other way to attract young backpackers.
So instead, let's go to Luang Prabang. Around 10 hours in minivan, with amazing landscapes over the mountains and lush forest. My first real experience in Asia on my trip, I love it. Finally we arrive in this lovely city and I found easily a guesthouse, Philaylack Villa 1, because there is not so much tourists in this season. The guesthouse is nice, all decorated in wood, cheap, quiet and clean. The staff is very friendly. I think I will stay here for a while.
Luang Prabang is a charming place, full of old stylish houses and pagodas. The night market is amazing, and the street food so delicious and so affordable. The Mekong view is fantastic; I even do a boat trip to visit the Pak Ou caves a little bit up north and the small village on the opposite side, where I try my first local alcohol! Burk!!! Thirty minutes away from the center, I visit small but nice water fall. Hopefully the tuk-tuk driver told me to bring my swimwear, a refreshing moment with the terrible heat.
I really enjoy this week there, I smoothly forget my country and all the stress I had accumulated during those working years, but I cannot stop thinking about my family and my mates... I miss them!
