Jodi Does Europe
I can't be bothered to put the album for this entry in order, but you can imagine that it's all very logically arranged and I will be very grateful.
We left early for La Ciotat and walked along the old port. We bought lunch at a boulangerie and breakfasted on some amazing brioche before taking the bus to a beautiful park with a secret garden in it, where we found our way up tiny paths to the Calanques. The Calanques are basically coves weathered by time and the elements that now have gorgeous little nooks in them and are amazing to swim through. We ate next to the water, rested a good 30 minutes (I took a lovely nap) and then had a chance to swim. We watched teenagers threaten to push each other off the calanques and eventually dive in, and I had to fight not to let the lifeguard instinct kick in. Luckily, everybody was safe--no spinal injuries that day!
We went next to Cassis by way of the Cretin path, the route people from Crete traveled at some point in history (I didn't catch that detail). This meant that the bus looked like it was going to fall into the abyss and I basically didn't breathe the entire time but it was spectacular. We disembarked at the top and hiked for a bit to take pictures and experiment with our respective fears of heights. Next, we arrived in Cassis, and went at once for a boat tour of all the nearby Calanques. We saw about 5, but my camera died at this point, so you'll have to imagine them.
It was a beautiful day, and a really amazing experience. It was also a good way to say goodbye to many friends who departed this weekend.
Now, it feels like the party's over, and its back to work. I begin my last 2 weeks of language school, during which I'm back in the intensive course. That means less travelling, more homework, and hopefully better French!
Miss and love you all,
Jodi
