With our early start we were able to see Angkor wat, angkor Thom (why is David Bowie in mind?) and ta prohm - the major tourist attractions (with the major tourist groups - the Japanese who Brian is aching to comment on!) tomb raider was filmed at ta prohm. It was an amazing temple so we have a million photos of tree roots entwining ruins but sadly angelica Jolie had left the building!
The second day was largely written off as a result of lunch at the tourist restaurant on day 1 but day 3 was the best.
A few observations. Please forgive any lack of political awareness.
First the Japs. No doubt perfectly nice people individually but in groups - why oh why can't they be separated by more than a millimetre? And why do they insist on being photographed in stupid (unoriginal) poses in front of the most exquisite bits of ruin?
Then the street sellers. High pitched yells of '1 dollar' by tiny kids are at once heart wrenching and frustrating. Give in to one and the whole
of Cambodia descends.
Then the Americans. Naive at best around the world they reach dizzy new heights here.
Must stop now for my medication.
I will try to restore some sanity!
As I was saying the 3rd day took us (by remoke - a tuk tuk with motorcycle) to some of the less busy temples and we have had a great day. More details can follow for anyone interested.
Tomorrow heralds a 6 hour bus journey to phnom penh!

Kaz Oh dear... less relaxing in Cambodia than Laos? but "Japs"? tip for the street sellers- if you carry round a bag of sweets or crayons apparently it can help with the emotional side, without hurting the pockets... or delaying you for half a day! mike said it helped in India anyway... The Americans I have no sympathy for... say whatever you like about them! Hope the medication worked! Look forward to catching up, and hope that the next stage of the trip is more relaxing!
Hannah Karen! Nooooooo....that no longer works I'm afraid....they tend to throw them back at you with absolute disgust and demand 'dollar'...it's the same if you offer to buy rice rather than give money! Anyway, all sounds amazing.....did you make sunset on the temples? Can't wait to hear next update xxxx P.s Plants watered, house cleaned, birds fed, rubbish taken out and cards posted! And....I have discovered the cooking utensils! xxxx
Naze Han...you're getting slow. Angelica Jolie? I do hope this was deliberate. I can see dad's face reddening as I read...good use of PC 'Japs'. Would love to hear more details! xxxx
