CAPTAIN SLOG STAR DATE 73.13
Having watched the last few stragglers return to the ship in a taxi that did a handbrake turn at the bottom of the gangway, I then watched us cast off and slip gracefully away from Curacao. My memories were of a sea as blue as the drink itself and discarded rusting cars, bit sad really.
We were soon underway in the open sea. It was noticeably calmer now we were away from the tradewinds. I sat on the balcony with a couple of inches of Soavie Blonk and watched the island slip back in my thoughts, ever onward! A day at sea and then Grenada and it's Whale and Dolphin Spotting from a little bouncy boat! Something to look forward to!
Having finally worked out how to include photos on this blog, I sent off yesterday's edition with some included. I haven't heard from anyone yet if my attempts at Advanced IT have been successful. I hope you appreciate how technically challenged I am? I had to use a media hub and a micro SD card holder thingy and then try and work out how to stick it on my external micro SD card, put it on the Gallery of my Galaxy Note and then copy and paste into my Polaris Office. Have I lost you yet? Needless to say I shall be severely pi $$ ed off if it doesn't work!
I went down to the bar early tonight as I fancied one of those Greyhound things. I have to say that this trip has been a very low alcohol one, which my liver is turning cartwheels of joy over. I just have iced water with my dinner. I haven't even started on the mini bar as I still have a bottle of Oyster Bay and a tin of Bud of my own in there to drink first. I've nearly been on here a week and just finished my first bottle of wine.
God, I hope I'm not sickening for something!
Dinner was quite good, both socially and epicurally. I sat between Pat and Sandy, the Brit and the lady from Oregon. Her husband Phil is a narcotics cop, interesting, and she works at Safeways. Pretty normal really.
Bit of an early night for me - 11.15 - and I hung out the Do Not Disturb sign for the morning.
Didn't need the alarm clock in the morning as the numbnuts next door was coughing up his lungs on the balcony. Yuk, how do these people stay married?
9am saw me in the buffet doing healthy with fresh fruit and yoghurt and then I had about half an hour on a sunbed before the next stage of our progressive trivia quiz. There is one professional team, and some real dumbos and we are somewhere in the middle.
We got 18 out of 24, so very MOR.
I reclaimed my pod for a couple of hours and overheard from the hot tub that yet another cruise ship had broken down in St Maarten, the Carnival Dream, overflowing toilets and 3000 people being flown home. Strikes me they're not in port long enough for everything to be checked and serviced. This was their generator that had packed up.
Mind you, rumours were also flying that it may be sabotage as there are some union problems on Carnival ships. The plot thickens!!
3pm and I wandered into the Sky Lounge to listen or take part in a music trivia quiz. Love songs this time! My friends from dinner, the two Robins et al, asked me to join them, again, not too bad, only a few wrong and I did help out with Phil and Groovy Kind Of Love!
Then I decided on a trip to the casino. I took a while to lose my money, about 2 hours for $40, which I thought represented average value for money. I played my Mum's favourite Cats machine but I don't think it liked me much!
I forgot to tell you about the first Formal Night, they're not as scary and pretentious as they sound. Yes, you can get tarted up to the nines, but as long as you're smart, no problem. There was one man in the bar, I had to do a double take. He was wearing a pair of chinos, sandals and a black t-shirt. On the front of the t-shirt was printed a pinstripe tux, white shirt and a black bow tie. Not sure if he was passed as fit by the fashion police!
I have been invited to a solo traveller event this evening, where I join up with other people travelling on their own for a drink and a chat. If they can be bothered to turn up! I'll let you know tomorrow......
