We survived the flight to bangkok.
Flight from Sydney to Taipei-Taiwan was 9 and half hrs which actually went really fast. It helped that we had middle seats by the exits which have heaps of leg room and I was able to hop in my sleeping bag and lay out on the floor and sleep for nearly 4 hrs without the cabin crew noticing, which I needed to do coz I really wasnt feeling to good. Then after a 2 hr stop in Taipei we had a 4 hr flight to get here arriving at 1am. As soon as you walk outside the airport the heat and the smell of car fumes hits you. After a couple of taxis tried to rip us off we found one who agreed to take us to the hostel for 300baht which the hostel had told us is all we should have to pay. First day we walked around a bit got our bearings and did some shopping. there is markets and stalls squeezed in everywhere in this city trying to sell you everything youll never need, and you cant walk 5 metres without a food stall with something on the grill that resembles dog and smells like turd. Theres wild dogs roaming the streets here just waiting to be slaughtered.I also experienced my first ride in a tuk tuk which is a bit like a roller coaster ride weaving in and around all the traffic. Driving here is madness with cars, motorbikes, buses, tuk tuks and trucks all crammed bumper to bumper all swerving in front of each other and coming so close to crashing, but I havnt seen a vehicle with a single dent in it. The tuk tuk is prob the cheapest way to get around, apart from motorbike taxis but they look far to scary, we had one yesterday who agreed 30baht ($1.20) to take us to three different places which took over an hour. Then when we hoped in one to come back to hostel we didnt have to pay at all if we made a stop at a tailor shop who gave him fuel for customers he bought in. So we pretended to be after a suit and he got a coupon for 1litre of fuel for his tuk tuk.Today we went on a river boat to go and see some temples and a different part of the city. The river boat is way faster than stuck in a tuk tuk in traffic but the river itself is heavy with pollution, I actually seen dead fish float past with all the rubbish as we waited to get on. The temples here are amazing and probably the?only looked after buildings in Bangkok. We have booked our bus and ferry to koh tao for sunday leaving at 630pm and arriving on the island at about 1030am mon. Still got nearly 2 full days to roam around Bangkok but its going to be nice to get out of here and on the island
