While traveling to Europe sounds so exciting and so wonderful, and make no mistake, it is, the effect on the body, however, is not so hot! The trip across the Atlantic was as good as it could be. We enjoyed airline food, had wine, did the crossword puzzle and watched three, yes, three movies! Still, arriving at 5:37 am Paris time, when your body knows it's 11:37 pm ATL time, is just WRONG.
We made it to our hotel, took a brief siesta (Stan did), and then went out to explore--we are in Paris, no less! After a bit, we found ourselves in the Latin Quarter, one of the best places to be in Paris!!
Let me say this, the parks in Paris are fabulous. We entered a famous one right away, the Jardin du Luxembourg -- so beautiful, so ancient and artful, so wonderful. And the Parisians truly know how to enjoy their fabulous parks. Old people, young people -- so many people were out just enjoying the warm, dry breeze, the beautiful gardens and the magnificent day.
Contrary to popular US belief, by the way, the French are very friendly -- maybe they just like us??? The clerk at the store where we bought wine went out of his way to help us. He opened our wine for us (we had no cork screw . . . what were we thinking??) and directed us to the nearest bank so we could withdraw cash in Euros. French patrons of the store even joined in. They laughed with us, shook our hands and gave us a quick lesson in how to say "you're welcome" in French. As a note, the French love Coca Cola! Their variety still comes in a bottle.
We moved on to Pont des Arts, that wonderful bridge over the Seine at the Louvre. We discovered the bridge during our last trip when we saw couples, groups of friends and families picnicking, relaxing and enjoying the evening. We made a promise to return someday, join in, and share a bottle of wine there. We did!
