So we, officially, have been to Colca Canyon. On Thursday morning we woke up nice and early (2.30am) to take a bus out to Colca Canyon - a canyon near Arequipa that is more than a kilometer deep. Two days ago in Nasca, we did 2 trips. In the morning we went to see the Nazca lines they were spectacular and were started to be built around 500b.c. The Nazca lines are man made indentations in the desert about 5-6cms deep and of varying length and width (some 10cms wide, up to 6m wide, some go for 10kms). There are about 30 theories to explain their purpose the most conclusive appears that it would be some sort of combination of a star chart, markings to lead...

So yesterday we awoke early for us and went to have breakfast at 8:30am oh the life of the hardy traveller.... he he he so continental breakfast here consists of the following delicacies fried toast, a barely cooked egg (not Karls favourite) and butter with jam. After breakfast we went and looked at the parade that awoke us at 8:00 in the morning, it was mainly schools marching as well as Navy, and other Armed services, it was some sort of national day which mean...

So today we spent trapsing around Lima. We got to bed early last night and got up reasonably early to get into the zone. We worked out (with the help of the hostel reception) that there's a new bus system in Lima. It's like a bus way that goes through the major neighbourhoods and uses a go-card like system. So we rock up at the station, 5 minutes after the ticket seller finished.... okay, we'll work out the machines.... turns out you can't buy a single ticket...
