Whats up everyone, coming to you from Christchurch after a long drive last night! Its been a gd couple of days, yesterday as Ginge has the skydiving bug he went off to do a second jump! I went in search of something a little more gut wrenching.. The nevis highwire bungee jump. This is a drop of 134 meters, or 440 feet from a pod suspended by wires above a canyon! Its the highest bungee in NZ. I have to say it was more scary than the skydive simply because you are much closer to the ground and you have to throw yourself off rather than waiting for someone to do it for you. Once in the pod they strap you up with a harness etc and then you have to stand in this 2 foot long diving board sticking out of the pod. You just stand there looking down into this canyon thinking NO WAY so you just have to free your mind and go for it! You free fall for a good 6 or 7 seconds before the bungee cord starts to stretch and the ground comes up so fast. But I would say diving headfirst into a massive canyon with rocks and river below is definately a character building activity! i have photos and a dvd.
