I had planned on starting this blog on Monday-thinking that's when the adventure was going to start. Well, the "adventure"decided to start early and I just had to share a little bit of my day.
And I promise--it will be just a little bit. I won't recount my waking up at
6, telling them goodbye at 6:30, and walking the dog at 7. The laundry I put away and the last minute stuff I threw in the car--boring. Dropping Samuel off at gym and going w/ Hannah to Best Buy--yawn. You get the picture. Uneventful. Today I would have been happy with uneventful. But, that was not to be...
The plan was to leave town by 2, drive 2hours to Nana's and just chill out for the rest of the night. Well, that's not exactly what happened. You would know this if you follow me on Facebook. ;-). Apparently, though, uneventful was not to be! But, that's ok-I honestly believe that in some way God was not only giving me a kick in the pants for worrying, he we also, at the same time, showing me how he provides in any and every way. And in this case, he provided me with Dexter!
We weren't even 30 minutes into the ride when I noticed that my tire light came on. Since this car was brand spanking new, I did not want to ignore it, so I pulled over at the very next exit on 75. I told the kids to sit tight, and they barely heard me. They were so engrossed in their show and their snacks. I got out, checked each tires, and thought I was home free--until I checked the last one--doh--sort of flat and getting flatter in front of my eyes. Well, all I can say is that there must have been prayers directed at me at that very moment because not one curse word came out of my mouth and not for a second did I feel a minute of panic. I calmly pushed the SOS button on my Toyota and once the dispatch lady came on the line, I explained to her what the problem was. I was assured someone would be there soon, but in the meantime I would need to call a dealership or a tire place, since I can't drive far on the spare. Well, I thought it would be simple--we have all manner of Toyota care plans and figured that would take care of it. It probably would have, if it wasn't Saturday! Apparently you are flat out of luck if you have car trouble Saturday after 3. And believe me, both dealerships I called were unwilling to help and never even offered advice as to what I could do. I was very frustrated, but knew that if I had to, I'd drive back home 30 minutes and rent a car. I was not going to let this keep me from this cruise! Meanwhile-my roadside assistance person still had not shown up. Not looking so hot...until, a man walks by and says that there is a tire shop across the street! At first I ignored it, but when an hour went by and still no help, I got out of the car, took a picture of the sign so I could read the number and made that call. And I was so very glad I did. Not only did the owner of the tire place agree to fix it, he drove over with his jack and took the tire off in the parking lot and then drove it back to the shop to fix it! Less than thirty minutes later, it was patched, back on the car and I was on my way!! I was so very thankful that this ended up going so smoothly. And I am convinced that God was more than watching out for me--he also provided that tire place for me! I was very happy for the rest of the drive and I definitely had a peace about me. And, by this time I had finally heard Jamey's voice. Confirmation again that everything was ok. Somehow I knew that the rest of the trip would work out just fine. For all of us.
