Day 8 - Ottawa to Toronto
Tuesday 13th September.
This morning we are scheduled to doing a tour of parliament but because we have seen much of it yesterday we opt to have a quiet morning instead. We get our bags on the bus and have a late breakfast, and this hotel finally has some pays for breakky to have a break from the scrambled eggs I've been eating daily.
We leave the hotel on foot to find bridgehead coffee that Chris the receptionist at the Lord Elgin had recommended to us. And this is the best coffee I've had so far this trip second to maybe pavement in Boston.
We head back to the parliament to meet the tour group after their morning session and board the bus for Toronto. Michael has done something to his ankle so he grabs some ice from Tony (our bus driver) while we wait for everyone to arrive.
Lunch stop is at Kingston and Kelly joins us for lunch and we head to jack Astor's restaurant for lunch. We head up to the top deck and eat in the sunshine, Michael tries the house famous chicken fingers, which is delish and kinda like buffalo wings but breast portions instead. I had crunchy chicken with slaw, and Kelly had fish and chips.
Kelly and I wander back to the bus via the markets and the foreshore which is super pretty, then back on the bus at 2pm.
Afternoon pit stop is at the big apple in Brighton which had all sorts of goodies including apples, Apple baked goods, ice cream, cider and souvenirs. There's also a mini golf out the back and a petting zoo.
We enjoyed a soft serve frozen yogurt outside in the sunshine.
We check in at the Westin fairly late at 6pm and with our goal of getting to the baseball for the 7.07pm game we have a Dinner at the Westin bar. Surprisingly it's actually quite a good meal despite being a bit slow.
We head down to the Roger Centre stadium to purchase tickets on our arrival. The game has already started but all the locals are still piling into the stadium in the second innings. We manage to get tickets behind the diamond but they are literally in the back row.
The game is Toronto blue rays vs Tampa bay Rays's and the score was 6-2 to the Rays.
Throughout the whole game it's very animated with music lights and activity to keep the game interactive with the audience. There's a lot of attempts for the Mexican wave too, but not very successful.
When the game finishes at around 10pm we head back to the hotel and have some drinks with Kelly and continue drinking the maple Whisky.
