Day 10 - Niagara Falls
Thursday 15th September.
Today we leave Toronto and head for Niagara Falls. The weather is lovely in Toronto, and the sun is shining.
We take our first rest stop at the whirlpool which is a part of the river between the Great Lakes and just past the falls. There is an area car that goes across the river and back (takes about 10minutes). It takes about 25 people and has great views over the Rapids. These Rapids are ranked in the most dangerous in the world at a level 6 out of 6. The water is crazy quick and so bumpy.
The people who we dropped off for the helicopter rides come back to collect us and we head over for a quick look at the flower clock which is as it sounds a clock made in the garden out of flowers. Around the base there is a fish pond and Kelly tries to use her go pro to film them, but the water was too green to see anything.
We get back on the bus and head to the falls. We stop at the viewing area at table rock. The side of the falls at the top is our first view, and isn't too wet. We head around the the front and get absolutely drenched trying to get a look as the mist from the falls wth the wind pushing it in our direction.
We grab an early lunch inside the centre and head over to the river cruise. We get our disposable poncho's and head up to the upper viewing deck. The falls are incredible, you don't get a full idea of the force of the falls until you're right in front of them. The American falls are on the American side of the border and Canadian (horseshoe) falls are 2/3 on the Canadian border and 1/3 American. While we are In front of the horseshoe falls we get absolutely soaked from the water splashing up and the mist. My jeans and sketchers are soaked!
After the cruise we head to get tickets for the newly opened zip line along the falls. We sign our lives away and get booked in for the 2pm session. They are running a little behind because of the winds- they can't operate if winds are over 10mph. when we get up to the top there is a queue about 30-40 people deep and it takes us about an hour to get our turn. We have to wear a harness which is also our seat and backpack for our things. We finally get our turn and get strapped in for our ride alongside the falls. We have to go down with arms and legs out in a star. It's not super fast, but it gives a great view of the falls on the way down. About 3/4 of the way down I was like- how do they stop this?!? Haha we get to the end and there is a bump stop it we all go flying in the air legs up and then come to a stop. What a ride! So much fun I wanna do it again!!
We finish up with some photos and get into a mini van to take us back to the top- but we have to leave our helmets on for the van ride, bizarre!
We head for a quick drink at the Hard Rock Cafe before getting on the bus, we sit in the street side dining and they have a guy playing live music which is pleasant.
At 4pm we get on the bus and head back for the hotel.
I spend a bit of time uploading photos and then take a powernap. Around 6ish we head down to the spa for a bit and then have as sauna.
Time to find some dinner - we just want a quiet night so we head across the street from the hotel to an Indian restaurant called moska? We order a chicken vindaloo and a vege dish to share. The vindaloo is delish- but so hot!! It definitely cleans out the pipes. We thought we try a glass of their house special lime soda- sounded refreshing. We laughed when we got it- it looked like dirty dish water with like and mint on top. They make it with all sorts of Indian spices such as cumin coriander and pepper. It had a strange taste sweet and savoury, but we couldn't drink anymore then a taste each! You gotta try these things sometimes...
We head back to the hotel around 8.30 and pack up our stuff to get ready for an early start tomorrow and jump into bed around 9.30.
