Instead of taking a four hour tourist bus into Antigua in Guatamala, we insted decided to be cheap and only take the chicken buses. Three cramped bumpy rides and seven hours later, we had only just made it to the Guatamalan border; to late to get any buses further. It`s well known that border towns are never fun places but this one was a very odd place. As we entered the hotel, we saw a very drunk man collapse in the hotel`s restaurant. Two hours later we saw him again when he was called to fix our room`s plumbing, still smelling strongly of liquor. After that, we went to the local shop to buy some snacks, yet we were unable to leave when the owner brought out a table for us to eat our crisps at. Not before long, we had had enough of this place and tried to get to sleep, though this turned out to be quite difficult due to a rooster the hotel owned that started screeching around 11 that night and didn`t stop until we were able to leave the following morning; something we were very glad to do.
