Early start as the taxi was due at 715 and are always early, so packed bags, said goodbyes and taxi was indeed here by 7...
Felt I'll again this morning, beer/malaria?!?
Bit nervous that they wouldn't let us fly because we have no onward flight to Malawi. All went smoothly and apart from a few power cuts the time flew past with blog entries and cards.
Net nice black chap who was on route to Frankfurt to a conference on global warming.. We headed to check in 30 mins before takeoff and got rushed by Stuarts because apparently we were late.... Average seats and 4 hours later Malawi!!!!!!
After addis we didn't know what to expect.. Dirt glances were good, bags were very late off plane. Taxi cost 4500 kwecha-£18!!! but soon realised why as it took us 45 mins to get to out maybua camp. As we arrives we were greeted
With an almighty thunder and lightning storm! Stunning tropical storm.
Malawi is green, clean, fresh, less populated than addis and a real
Breath of fresh air! Lovely place.
Met two medical students, Charlie and Abi, they work at hospital an hours walk away, and live here during their three month placement, although they leave on Friday. Both a good laugh and brought us some beer as we were out of Money.. Also met a chap called vista from brazil, he looked like Jesus and told us these crazy stories about his 6 month stay in Africa. My personal favourite was the rime he worked for a friend of a friend in Mozambique illegally collecting croc eggs at night and selling to croc farm.. And how they killed the crocs with an axe from under their jaw so not to damage skin on top...
