SO first day in Aus consisted of getting to the hostel from the airport with my light luggage. A representative from QUT picked me up and travelled with the other girls from UQ to the hostel (despite an email from someone saying I wouldn't be). The guy who drove us was great - little tour of Brisbane and surroundings. Brisbane is really beautiful. Although not really seen a lot of it, it just feels so modern and relaxed.
When we arrived at the hostel had to wait a few hours before our room was ready so we decided to all go to "Coles". I had forgotten how expensive everything was and seeing as I wasn't that hungry decided to save my money for the time being. Finally we got into the hostel room, 3 bunk beds, long mirror and cupboards to lock our things away. Pretty basic. Was a bit gutted to realise we had no wireless but not end of the world. After nice HOT shower Rose and I went out to look around and go to town. We realised what a great spot our hostel was in as the walk was around 13minutes (incl getting lost time). It was really refreshing to see other people and look around and just reminded me of good memories the last time I was here. Felt a bit sad and tired so was good to get out and just realise I wasn't alone and this city is a lot bigger than I think. As everywhere was shutting around 5ish didn't have chance to sort out phone / bank things. So, the plan tomorrow (Wed) is sort out those things and go to the uni and just explore.
SO not quite as expected ended up taking a long time to sort out phone and bank and barely enough time to read the uni, but I do know where it is for tomorrow J . Big match was on tonight QUEENSLAND v new south wales, WE WON :D
Went with the girls to bar and watched the match in sweaty conditions. Was alright for rugby and apart from being exhausted at the end of the day it helped the day.
Getting stuff done is long and hard and just not as easy and I thought. Although I have a phone, bank account, TAX number and student card (perks) still need to collect bank card and TAX number, sort out other phone and well apparently student card isn't activated so when I say things done. Not really. Its hard going to a new city and place to live when your phone breaks, you have no accommodation, wifi and everything gets half done (no crossing off anything off my lists) but I know it's a start and hey I have a year to sort it out… as my mum always says "it takes time, Rome wasn't built in a day", okay a lot of other people say that too but besides the point. A lot of other girls arrived here today - think 11 of us in total. Need to do looking into houses and accommodation but I'm getting there……. SLOWWWWWLLLLLLLLYYYYYYY.
Also sorry to everyone I'm ignoring via whatsapp or anything. I only don't like some of you. Hopefully find a house by next week… hopefully.
This time last week was on the way to the airport and its actually crazy how I've been here for nearly a week. I mean I still have nowhere to live, but on the bright side do have places to visit tomorrow. So far been to the city quite a few times, went on the ferry (cityKAT), went out in the Valley and just having a really good time. I really like Brisbane already. Last night was so fun and really good going out with everyone and just chilling now cause everyone just exhausted. I slept till 1pm and woke up so confused, but were all going out to get burgers later so should be good to chill with everyone. Also tomorrow is going to be so busy seeing so many houses! REALLY REALLY hope find somewhere tomoz… then can begin to organise everything else in my life.
